Naka Akira and Sugiura Norio

This series of glossy-print Photo-books in A4-format feature Sugiura Norio’s masterful photography of Kinbaku scenes. Rope-work is generally by Naka Akira. Each book comes with a full length DVD from the photo-shoots, sometimes documenting both the process of tying and the process of photography and posing.

S&M Sniper Spring 2016: Naka, Yukimura, Kinoko, Kai and Marai tying Kawakami Yuu

S&M Sniper Spring 2016: Naka, Yukimura, Kinoko, Kai and Marai tying Kawakami Yuu

The magazine S&Mスナイパー has been around, in different forms, since 1979. It ceased publication in 2009, returning for a while as ”Web Sniper”, a site still worth visiting (it also has a search-funtion): http://sniper.jp

This spring, the magazine was resurrected in printed form, with the nawashi Marai Masato as its editor. The first issue is focussed on the famous model Kawakami Yuu, mainly containing images from a recent series of DVDs (also released by SM-Sniper). It is really a high quality collection, showing the same person being tied in the different styles of Naka Akira, Yukimura Haruki, Kinoko Hajime, Kai and Marai Masato. The issue comes with an accompanying DVD, with shorter clips from this series.

So, while the issue might be viewed as mainly a ”re-packaging” of material already released it would be equally true to say that it is an antology of the most interesting kinbaku-material handled by the publisher SM Sniper.

The DVD ends with a comprehensive list of movies with Kawakami Yuu that is so long, it leaves me in shock – literally hundreds of titles.

Again, I try to keep printed material as the focus of the blog, but at times I sneak some information in about DVDs in my collection, as they are related to the book or magazine in question.

(The DVDs number 5 and 6 features Naka tying two other models, so I don’t include them in this post focussed on the Yuu Kawakami-issue of S&M Sniper. )

Kenji Matsui: Suspensions (オール吊りの本, Oro tsuri no hon)

According to SMpedia, Kenji Matsui (1940–2013) was an ”amateur” nawashi, who’s work was sometimes published anonymously. He had some relations with, among others, Akechi Denki. Kenji in turn was an important influence for Kamui Jubei and the ”Mumonbaku”-style.

This is an extraordinary publication. A collaboration between master photographer Sugiura Norio (born 1942), nawashi Naka Akira (born 1959) and nawashi Hourai Kasumi (born 1980).

I do not know of any other Japanese kinbaku-publication where a person switches, and acts both in the role of tying and in the role of being tied.

It has three elements:

* A booklet with fantastic photos by Sugiura, of Hourai tied by Naka.

* A DVD with Hourai tying  御前珠里, directed by Sugiura

* A DVD with Naka tying Hourai, directed by Sugiura

This limited edition came with an additional collector’s photo, signed by Sugiura Norio.

Hourai Kasumi in SM Mania 2010 and 2015 – and DVDs

As far as I know, there is still no full photo-book with Hourai Kasumi’s work. (But see the next post, about her collaboration with Sugiura Norio and Naka Akira.)

Here are images from two issues of Mania Club [マニア倶楽部], Vol. 18, 2010 and Vol. 49, 2015.

The issue from 2015 was presented to me and my partner as a gift from Nao Nagasawa (who is the person tied in the images), after she and Hourai had been visiting us in Stockholm Sweden. The images were taken during the shooting of a DVD.

Please also read my interview with Kasumi here:

http://www.kinbakutoday.com/interview-hourai-kasumi/

Also worth a read, Yuki Sakurai interviewed Nao Nagasawa here:

http://www.kinbakutoday.com/nao-nagasawa-interview/

I include – again deviating somewhat from the format of the KinbakuBooks blog – a reference to DVDs by Hourai in my collection so far:

First movie, with the motto (in English): ”The Beauty of Shibari exceeds Eros”:

女流緊縛師・蓬莱かすみの耽美の世界」 相・慕・縄 (2012)

Two DVDs with US Models:

蓬莱かすみ耽美の世界 縄の絆 羅府編 第一章 (2013)

蓬莱かすみ耽美の世界 縄の絆 羅府編 第二章 (2013)

A series of three movies, the last one with the caption (in English) ”Hourai has been a professional female bondage artist for sixteen years. Trained by Denki Akechi and Hajime Kinoko, Hourai aims to transmit the Japanese beauty and spirit of her kinbaku to the world.”

vol.

vol. (2015) (Model: Nao Nagasawa)

vol.

Osada Eikichi: Kinbaku tutorials in SM Spirit Magazine 1993

In 1993, Osada Eikichi published photo-tutorials for seven ties in seven consecutive issues of the magazine SM Spirit [SMスピリッツ ] – number 4–10.

I have gotten hold of three of them, issue 6, 7 and 8. The pictures here are taken from issue 6.

This A5-size photo-book by female kinbakushi Fuwa Shinobu features images of tied up young men. It also includes a small tutorial and accompanying texts introducing rope-bondage.

Among other activities such as performances and workshops, Fuwa Shinobu also organizes a separatist rope-event for women only. She has also been teaching in Europe. More information about her on her website: http://fuwashinobu.sakura.ne.jp/top2.html

Two Beautifully Bound booklets

After the two outstanding books ”Beautifully Bound” number 1 and 2 (aka the ”black book” and the ”red book”), a series of booklets were issued making use of the same title: ”Beautifully Bound” numbers 3–11. These were published by Tenseisya, Abeno Osaka. I have made a couple of posts about this series before, and now I am happy to have acquired two more. I am a bit uncertain about the order in which the booklets were published, but they are from around 1964. My best guess is that the two presented here are number 4 and number 8.

The images above (except for the backside of no 4, where it says number ”2”, sigh…) are from all from the issue themed ”Women tying women”. No ISBN.

Do you appreciate the blog Kinbaku Books?

The year is approaching its end.

In 2015 alone, I have made 44 blogposts, sharing, cataloguing and commenting Japanese material from the 1950s until today. The blog has, in 2015, been viewed 76.000 times with visitors from more than 110 countries. The largest number of views are from Japan.
I don’t sell anything, make no commercials what so ever. This blog will keep on being a service to the Kinbaku community and a free resource – however, please do consider the possibility of making a small symbolic donation. Every little helps, and this would be a good moment.

Uramado Magazine – examples from 1961 and 1962

Minomura Kou was the editor of the Magazine ”Uramado” (裏窓) 1956-1962, after which Nureki took over, being the editor under the name ”Yu Fujimi” from 1962 until the magazine’s end in 1965. Hiroshi Urado and Muku Youji were also in the editorial group at Kubo Shoten publishers during the Nureki-years. Here are some examples from number 8 and 11 from 1961 and number 4 from 1962, including a series of poses ”without rope”, and a commercial advertisment for John Willie’s ”Sweet Gwendoline”…
