Dan Oniroku (Ed.) 地獄花 (Jigoku Hana) 1–4

Four thick bondage photo-compilations (”Flowers from hell”), edited by Dan Oniruko. I understand there is also a book 5. The first book has mostly images of bondage using metal chains and rubber straps, book 2–4 only rope.

If anyone knows who did the rope-work, I would be happy to hear from you.

Yukimura Haruki: Four ”Nawa”-books

These four large format books have many beautiful scenes with Yukimura’s rope. The ”Nawa-Zakura”-book contain some rare images of Yukimura doing full suspensions, as well as some candle play and a hojo-pattern. The ”Nawa-Sumire” and ”Nawa-Ran” books both have images where Yukimura is using a nose-hook. All images here are from the ”Nawa-Zakura”-book. Unknown year of publication.

Shima Shikou: Nekketsu nyotai chokyo 3

This publication features the work of Shima Shikou, who is very often himself also visible in the images. Famous for his ”hard style” SM, Shima Shikou was one of the first to introduce needle play in Japan – pictures of this are also included. Lots of outdoor images and a long interview. Some colour, but most black and white photo.

Randa Mai: Kinbaku rannyo

A beautiful rope-focussed book in a somewhat glamorous style, including some essays. Less SM play than what at least I associate with Randa. Featuring also some examples of the art of tying persons to objects.

Donation from Osada Steve

In the Fall of 2014, I received a letter from Osada Steve, in which he generously offered me a donation of Kinbaku-material.

He wrote: ”You have an amazing collection (…) I am in the process of cleaning up my office and keep digging up stuff that I didn’t know I had. (…) They are too good to disappear in the abyss, so I’m trying to find a good home for them. I also keep running into back issues of my little FetishJapan mag. I think if you have the complete collection they will be in much better hands than being scattered around here. If you like, I will keep sending these to you as they come up (…) Most of the ”books” are run-off-the-mill kinbaku porn that I have assembled over the past 30+ years, but there is a gem here and there that will complement your serious collection – I hope. (…) It is great that you collect, archive and share – it is a great service to the community. Please feel free to use any way you wish. I fully trust your judgment. (…) I hope there is something of value in it for your research endeavors.”

In the end, the donation was even greater than my expectations: Three large boxes full of books, magazines, movies on VHS and DVD, the FetishJapan mag, flyers – and more. All in all 45 kg of material.

My plan is to approach this material piecemeal, making individual posts for the different publications, marking them ”OS” to show their provenance. On the blog, I have so far only posted about printed material, excluding the DVDs etc in my collection. I will probably make some exceptions from this general principle when I begin present the material from these boxes the next few weeks.

For now, just let me say: Thank you Steve-san

Itoh Seiu: Five original sketches

Itoh Seiu: Five original sketches

Itoh Seiu is perhaps the most important figure in the history of Kinbaku. Very seldom, you see original works by him for sale. I was happy to find these five original sketches by his hand on a recent auction i Japan. Not his greatest work perhaps, but the hair, the hands, the gags, the facial expressions… I am happy to have found them, and as I touch the thin paper I shiver a bit. I had to empty all my funds though…

Two special issues of Kitan Club from 1959 and 1960

A regular issue of Kitan Club contained more text than images. But a few times they did special ”limited edition” issues with images only – like these two from 1959 and 1960. The issue from 1959 also has a large section of illustrations. Both issues show hojojutsu ties – some also with neck-rope.
