Itoh Seiu: 黒縄記 (1951)

This artwork of a book comes intricately packaged in a cardboard box with a see-through window in front and a small peek-hole in the back. Once opened, the book has some blue silhouettes of bodies in bondage (these are reappearing on the last page). The back-cover is covered in silver with small pieces of gold. Mainly a text-book, it has a number of pages with illustrations (all protected by an additional page of rice-paper), and a section of photos. I especially appreciated seeing Itoh Seiu’s hands…

In a recent interview with Osada Steve, Wykd Dave posed the question ”Are there important figures in the history of Japanese bondage that you feel we should know about in the West but that we aren’t aware of?”

After going through some of the history of Kinbaku, Steve-san answered: ”Regarding Japanese rope artists that so far have evaded the radar in the West, I’d say that Miura Takumi (神浦匠) is perhaps the most underrated nawashi outside of Japan.” (Read the whole interview with Osada Steve here: http://rope-topia.com/osada-steve-interview/ )

Again breaking my own rules for the blog, I include also a reference to some DVDs with Miura. While all excellent, I especially want to give my highest recommendations to the DVD series Miura did together with Akechi Denki – I have learned very much from them: 緊縛技形宝典 (1-4), 2005–2006

The DVD緊縛-緋影神縛円舞 documents a live performance from 2006.

The photo-CD-rom お母さんの秘密(with the small cover, from 2005) is with the model Camelia Tsubaki and shows rope and SM-play, including some waterbondage…

Maeda Juan: Art Works 責め絵集 (seme-e shu)

A hardbound book with the artwork of Maeda Juan. In the new edition of The Beauty of Kinbaku, Master ”K” describes Maeda’s style as ”’lyrical’ but also shocking” – and indeed some of the torturous and bloody images from this book I choose not to present here on the blog. They are all, however, done with mastery.

Ai-nawa Stories: 愛縄物語            

This softcover book, printed on rather cheap paper, collects the work of four artists under the headline ”Eros Painters of the Showa Age”: Muku Youji, Maeda Juan, Oki Shoji and Kasama Shiro. In addition to some classic Muku-drawings, you also get some of his cartoons / manga. Each artist is also presented with a short biography and a portrait.

Muku Youji’s images turned into figurines

These eight plastic ”Ero-pon” figurines recreate some of Muku Youji’s images in another medium. The come also with small plastic bags of minutely detailed accessories from the images, such as a pair of taken-off panties or a rubber tube for enema-play. These are some of the weirdest kinbaku-paraphernalia in my collection.
