Hojojutsu-books from 1930 and from 2015
Taneaki Hara (Ed.): ”Keizai Chishoshu”, two volumes (1930)
Two hardbound volumes in carton slipcases, with a golden upper cut. The first of these two volumes contains a reprint of the tractate ”Nawa no Gokui Den”, with 53 two-color sketches of hojo-ties from one particular Ryu. Both volumes deal with a variety of topics, including sexual crimes, punishment and torture in the Edo period.
I typically post only about Japanese books and magazines. However, I want to mention the newly published book ”Hojo Jutsu: L’Arte Guerriera della Corda” by Christian Russo (Torino: Edizioni Yoshin Ryu, 2015). It contains a full 40-page reproduction and translation of the illustrated manuscript ”Nawa Sho”, the ”book of rope” from Seigo Ryu. ISBN: 978-8-8906-0053-1
PS There is now also an English version released of Russos book (only as an e-book): ISBN: 978-8-8906-0055-5
