Nureki Chimuo: Venus Club (1994 and 1995)

Venus Club was a series of very small pocket-books with photos of relatively ”light” rope bondage published in the mid-1990s, often featuring rope by Chimuo Nureki. See for example the way a third rope is added around the waist in the two first images I have included here, going over one shoulder, around the back-friction and back over the other shoulder, finishing in a slightly asymmetrical way, adding an extra line to the right half of the lower wrap… Today, not surprisingly, something similar is often seen in Akira Naka’s ties.

Dirty Kudo: ” 残縄画報” (Zan nawa gaho) (1998) and the DVD 『縄文式 / AYAKOの退院』(1998, on DVD 2001)

This photo-book with rope by Dirty Kudo, is focussed on rope-marks. Dirty Kudo has made innumerable videos as a bakushi, director and producer, but as far as I know, this is his only book.

As a principle, I don’t write about DVDs on the blog (only books and magazines), but in this case I would like to mention that as a kind of companion volume, Dirty Kudo also released a movie, ”Jomonshiki”, about the shooting of the book, together with a dramatic extra movie called ”Ayako’s release from the hospital”, feauturing a kind of ”medical play” using bandages for the bondage. Original movie in 1999, was released on DVD in 2006 (ASIN: B001D0609G). A follow-up movie, ”縄文式2” (Jomonshiki 2), featuring Saotome Hiromi, was made in 2001. This, however, I have not found released on DVD.

A hardbound blue book in a printed carton slipcase.

Master ”K” writes in The Beauty of Kinbaku:

’The first useful guide to understanding and carefully practicing SM and shibari/kinbaku that I’ve seen is from 1972 and was authored by Urato Hiroshi, the talented bakushi responsible for the fine kinbaku in the Nikkatsu/Dan Oniroku films ”Wife to be Sacrificed”, ”Flower and Snake”, etc. Its title, translated on the cover into English (!) is ”SM Play: You Can Play S&M”. Like the title, the contents are simple and direct and offer general advice and photos on how to create straightforward but attractive kinbaku ties and enjoy various ”scenes”. It was an auspicious beginning for this genre.’ (p. 47)

秘蔵版 風俗草紙 – Hizo-ban fuzoku soshi (1953)

In december 1953, the short-lived magazine 風俗草紙 (Fuzoku soshi) made a special ”treasured edition” (秘蔵版) in larger format, and 330 pages thick, opening with an 80-page better quality-paper rope-section with photos and illustrations by, among others Kita Reiko (aka Minomura Kou) who had just quit Kitan Club magazine.

Naka Akira: 責め縄絵巻 (Semenawa Emaki) (2011)

This 240-page full colour-book shows photos from seven different sessions, previously released on DVD by Murusou Club. (Quite like this one, but in another format: https://kinbakubooks.wordpress.com/2013/11/09/akira-naka-kinbaku-net-vol-1/ ).

One session is together with Naka’s sensei, Nureki Chimuo. Another one is dedicated to Muku Youji – and indirectly maybe also to Nureki, as Nureki very often did the tying that Muku Youji made the images of. In this session, Naka and the model Saki Momoka then use these images as inspiration.
