Nureki Chimuo: Venus Club (1994 and 1995)

Venus Club was a series of very small pocket-books with photos of relatively ”light” rope bondage published in the mid-1990s, often featuring rope by Chimuo Nureki. See for example the way a third rope is added around the waist in the two first images I have included here, going over one shoulder, around the back-friction and back over the other shoulder, finishing in a slightly asymmetrical way, adding an extra line to the right half of the lower wrap… Today, not surprisingly, something similar is often seen in Akira Naka’s ties.

Naka Akira: 責め縄絵巻 (Semenawa Emaki) (2011)

This 240-page full colour-book shows photos from seven different sessions, previously released on DVD by Murusou Club. (Quite like this one, but in another format: https://kinbakubooks.wordpress.com/2013/11/09/akira-naka-kinbaku-net-vol-1/ ).

One session is together with Naka’s sensei, Nureki Chimuo. Another one is dedicated to Muku Youji – and indirectly maybe also to Nureki, as Nureki very often did the tying that Muku Youji made the images of. In this session, Naka and the model Saki Momoka then use these images as inspiration. Compare my earlier post on Muku Youji’s ”Cards” here: https://kinbakubooks.wordpress.com/2013/07/30/muku-youji-cards/

Preface by Masayuki Kotoh: ”as he kneels in front of the gods Eros and Thanatos, his Kinbaku emanates beauty. His art expresses a level of poetry which approaches the sublime when compared to those around him”.

Includes a DVD.

Models: Yu Kawakami, Maki Tomoda, Chisa Kirishima, Saki Momoka and Momo Shiroi

日本緊縛師列伝 (Nihon kinbakushi retsuden)

This book, edited by Sanada Nobuyuki, I found particularly interesting. It presents eight Japanese bakushi with a section of colour images of their work, and interviews: Nureki Chimuo, Akechi Denki, Shima Shikou, Hige, Marai Masato, Naka Akira, Randa Mai and Sayaka.

In addition, it has a few historical sections with black-and-white images by Itoh Seiu… and a couple of pages with images of Osada Eikichi at the Bondage bar in Shinjuku – probably taken at the same time as the images printed in the magazine in my previous blog-post (here: https://kinbakubooks.wordpress.com/2014/08/19/osada-eikichi-in-m女マニアcollector-1999/ )

A friend in Japan helped me get hold of a box of old issues of ”Kinbiken communications”. They contain mainly text and catalogues over Kinbiken-video clips with small photos in black and white – but many of the photos are fantastic, and all of the issues have some real gems inside. The later issues (with black covers, i.e. no 18 and 19) have a larger section of photos.

In 1993, as he moved to Japan, Trevor Brown visited several Kinbiken-meetings. He wrote about this, and a meeting in 1997, on his blog in a text that gives an interesting view: http://web.archive.org/web/20050312124436/http://www.pileup.com/babyart/kinbiken.htm

Trevor Brown kindly wrote me and added the following information: ”these images mostly copied from old Sanwa books compilations – so rope artist unknown – but almost certainly Nureki-sensei in many cases”. He also provided a link to an interview he did in the 1990s with Masami Akita, also dealing with Kinbiken: http://web.archive.org/web/19970625171403/http://www.tb-art.com/tb-art/html/archive/merzbow_interview.htm

A text by Masami Akita dealing with the history of bondage in Japan can be found online in two parts, here (1): http://www.bondageproject.com/public/history_e1.htm  And here (2): http://www.bondageproject.com/public/history_e2.htm

The section at the end of part (2) deals with Kinbiken, just scroll down.

Sm collector was a magazine that was started in 1972 by amongs others Minomura Kou. It folded 1985. Most of the images above are from the 1980-issue. Various bakushi and models are featured, but quite a few images show Nureki’s ropework. They contain also illustrations by for example Muku Youji and, represented here with the lady holding a gun, Harukawa Namio.
